BENEFICIARIES

At the moment we host 16 children aged between 5 and 18 years, girls and boys who come from 5 different families, living in the County of Cluj and who, at their arrival at the Center, had one or both parents in prison, who were not receiving adequate education and care, were neglected or suffering severe emotional disturbances which affected their capacity to relate in a positive way to their surroundings.

The period that a child stays in the Center varies and depends upon his/her accomplishments within the program, the development of his/her abilities to function socially, academically and emotionally and the possibilities of the family being reunited.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This project takes the form of a residential shelter for children whose parents are/were in prison, emphasizing the connection with the family (both the immediate and extended family) and community. The children are provided with a complex program of individualized assistance on a psychological, educational, social and spiritual level according to the specific needs of this category of beneficiaries.

The project targets also the re-establishment and strengthening of the connection of the child with the imprisoned parent with the purpose of reuniting the family when the parent leaves prison, but with the condition of maximum security for the child. For this purpose, the imprisoned parent participates in an intense counselling program that will help him/her assume responsibility as a parent and to prepare him/her for a positive reintegration into society. Keeping in touch with the important members of the extended family is a key part of the project.
