The Christian Mission for Prisons
Who we are
Prison Fellowship Romania (The Christian Mission for Prisons),
a non-governmental organization, a member of the Prison Fellowship
International (affiliated to the UNO), came into existence in
1993 with the purpose of mobilizing and assisting the Christian
community in its ministry to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their
families, and also of promoting and sustaining the improvement
of the correctional system in Romania.
At the beginning the main goal of Prison Fellowship Romania
was just the activity in prisons (the preaching of the gospel,
Bible study, spiritual counseling) charitable acts for the prisons
in Romania (logistics, infrastructure, medical equipment, medicines),
training and educational courses for prisoners and also study-visits
for the experts of the National Administration of Prisons and
for the directors of prisons in over 35 countries.
The lack of a postdetention activity and of a direct interaction
with the person who was deprived of liberty determined Prison
Fellowship Romania to develop and implement the first practical
model of probation in Romania, the need for this activity being
enormous.
Prison Fellowship's logo has its correlation in Isaiah 42:3
"A bruised reed shall not be broken, and the smoking flax
be not quenched: he shall be bring forth judgment unto truth."
The symbol of the bruised reed illustrates the vocation of the
Prison Fellowship of receiving people who are otherwise rejected
by society and considered useless and not worthy of love, offering
them the possibility of receiving restoration and the forgiveness
of God.
