The Christian Centers for Children Who Live on the Street

MISSION

The mission of this Center is to contribute to solving the problems of children who live on the street, as well as decreasing the risks that may come from this way of life (especially the risk of committing crimes). Our final objectives are to prevent and decrease offending by our clients or those who are exposed to the risk of falling into this way of life by reintegrating the children who live on the streets back into family and society. We want to offer these children a family-like environment characterized by love, warmth, confidence and safety.

LOCATION

Prison Fellowship Romania received a building from Cluj-Napoca Municipality where we have developed a residential center. The construction of the Center is based on two bedroomed apartments for children, each having also a room for daily activities and a bathroom. The building is situated in Cluj-Napoca, on Sobarilor Street, no 29.

BENEFICIARIES

Presently, beneficiaries of The Christian Center For Children Who Live On The Street number 45, 20 girls and 25 boys. These children fall into three principal categories:

  • children who lived on the streets for a period of time
  • children who spent their days in the streets but who went home during the night
  • children in risk situations; for different reasons their parents have lost their home, and to avoid living with the children on the streets, they bring them to the Center.

The children are from 7 to 17 years of age, but we also have two young people of 18 and 19 years old respectively who are part of our program and join our activities.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Our program is oriented in two directions: medical, psychological and spiritual assistance for the children for the whole time he/she stays in the Center, and assistance for the child's reintegration, whenever that is possible.

There are four basic categories of activity in our Center:

  • activities that ensure the fulfilment of primary needs: food, clothing, medical assistance and learning the rules of personal hygiene
  • educational activities
  • activities directed to the psycho-social development of the child
  • activities with the purpose of identifying and supporting families with the goal of reintegrating the children in the Center back into their families
